Reconsider the Idea of Secondhand Watch

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

If you were so ready to dismiss any second hand watch as faulty and worthless, you should from now on think more about it. Second hand watches, especially those brand watches are quite valuable for collection for several reasons.

Second hand watches’ value in most cases lies in their rarity. As we all know when a thing is scare, it is precious, as is the case with watches. Some limited editions of brand watches may be worth much more than their purchase price. For example, my friend once bought a second hand OMEGA watch of the 50th anniversary limited series for more than its original price several years ago. Those watches are rare on the market and not so many people are willing to offer to sell, so if there is any, they can prove quite expensive.

Some second hand watches are mechanical watches, which fully demonstrate the value of watches. In spite of their small watch movements, they boast all the functions a watch can have, from time keeping to the display of calendar, week and month. To make such a watch, the watchmaker must put an enormous amount of work and efforts in it.

If a second hand watch is neither a brand name nor a mechanical watch, it doesn’t mean that it has no value for collection. Some second hand watches are worth quite a lot because they are so uniquely designed that there are none like them on the market. Their exquisite workmanship or distinctive style makes them so different from the others though they may be from a small time designer or a manufacture. They are valuable because they are unique.

In a word, second hand watches, because of their limited numbers or various functions, superb workmanship or unique design and style are valuable for collection. So once you accidently get a second hand watch, think twice before selling it.

Limited Edition, Unlimited Opportunities

“The more sales, the more profits.”, which is the golden rule in the field of business. However, the appearance of “limited edition” may not walk on the normal way.

For example, this watch named “ La Clef du Temps watch” owns the price of 410, 000 dollars on the auction. The other watch named “Equinox” by Nuno Teixeira looks more fashionable and characteristic than ordinary watches.

There comes the question: What makes this watch so valuable? The powerful functions and gorgeous design can not be ignored, but the most important is its rareness. As an old Chinese saying goes, “When a thing is scarce, it is precious.”. So the existence of limited-edition watches has planted a new target for the rich to pursue for.

Let’s come back to the business. Generally, in order to design an edition of watch, a company must invest great numbers of money to invite the most popular designer and carry on the promotion. All of these expenses is just paid on a small amount of watches. Despite of the high price, the profit is subtle. What a foolish deal! Are those businessmen stupid? Absolutely not! We can infer that what the businessmen want to get from the customers is not the current profits but the acceptance of the brand which helps the company develope sustainably.

All the people have the desire to get something different from others, and luckily, limited-edition watches come to their needs. The word “limitied” is the symbolize of elegant and poised. A unique watch can make the owner feel honorable even though it is in whopping price.

Making limited-edition watches benefits the enterprises. Owning limited-edition watches gives the customers supreme honor. This is why limited-edition watches exist and prevail in the market. If I have enough money, I’d like to own one limited-edition watch.
